Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

L10ENCES to run direct coach services from Marlborough Farm army camp, Kineton, to Birmingham, Liverpool and Manchester were granted to two operators by the West Midland Licensing Authority, last week. Mr. W. K. Russell, of Banbury, was permitted to run to Birmingham, and Hutfields Garages (Warwick), Ltd., Warwick, to the other destinations.

British Railways, Birmingham and Midland Motor Omnibus Co., Ltd.. Stratford Blue Motors and Lloyds Motorways objected. Mr. Russell's applications to run to Leeds, Liverpool. Newcastle and London, ,pnd that of Hutfields to operate to Birmingham, were refused. In addition, Hutlields withdrew their applications concerning Leicester and London.

The Authority later gave his decision on a joint application by G. H. Austin and Sons, Ltd., and Greatrex Motor Coaches, Ltd., both of Stafford, to run services from Stafford R.A.F. camp to 29 destinations. Objections had been lodged by B.R.. B.M.M.O. and The Potteries Motor Traction Co., Ltd.

The Austin company were allowed to run eight vehicles on 36-hour leaves and nine on 48-hour leaves to Leicester, Birmingham, London, Nottingham and Sheffield. Greatrex were permitted to operate 13 vehicles on 36-hour leaves and 14 on 48-hour leaves to Birkenhead, Preston, Bristol, Burnley, Birmingham, London, Sheffield, Cardiff, Doncaster, Bolton and Leeds.

REGISTRATIONS DOWN 20,000 LAST YEAR

REGISTRATIONS of new vehicles, excluding cars and motorcycles, declined by 20,324 during 1952. The biggest single drop was under the heading "hackneys," in which the number fell from 11,333 to 5,388. "Other goods" declined by 7,222, whilst "exempt vehicles" rose by 2,090. For 1952 the grand total was 132,902, of which details are given in the table below.
