Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

Fr HE FIRST bus station to as opened 1 in South Wales was that completed by the South \Vales Commercial Motors, Ltd., of Cardiff and Bridgend, at. Market Street and Wyndham Street,, Bridgend, some 12 months -ago. This -structure, containing ladies' and general waiting-rooms, bookstall, and refreshment-room, conveniences for a wash and brush-up and employees' messrooms, provides faeilitiea for loading and unloading by way of platforms, winch enable buses running on four different routes to be dealt with at one time.

The company undertook the erection of the station at the request of the Bridgend Urban District Council, which stated that the provision of covered stand accommodation for bus passe/mere would be required from all service-vehicle proprietors on its completion, and it desired to be able to point to an example of hew public requirements could be met by establishing suitable bus stations.

The company expended £1,600 on the building, which is mainly constructed of concrete and corrugated steel. Other South Wales local authorities have re marked on the excellence of the station, and several councils have approached 'the same company with the idea of having similar provision made in their own areas.

The Portheawl Urban District Council recently passed a resolution to provide a site for the erection of a bus station, providing the South Wales Commercial Motors, Ltd., would undertake the erection of the building, and negotiations are now proceeding, the outcome of which will probably see accommodation provided at the Glamorganshire seaside resort.

At Newport the same company had, until recently,a small covered stand for buses in Church Road, and they were contemplating the erection of a better structure when the unfortunate dispute with the Newport Council arose, which ,resulted in the company's buses discontinuing entry to the centre of Newport. The Newport-Chepstow bus service now rums only to the corporation tramway terminus, so that. the need for the contraction of a second bus station in

South Wales has for the moment been removed. The question that has arisen ire South Wales in connection with the development of bus and coach stations is whether or not local authorities which desire such structures could not in some way or other lend aid by 'securing combined action from all proprietors running bus services, and thus minimize the expenditure of each owner. Where a monopoly existe, the provision of a station by the proprietors possessed of the privilege is undoubtedly desirable; but where numerous rival concerns have to be competed with it is suggested that the big capital expense involved in connection with the provision of station facilities may not be warranted if -such concerns are permitted do Pick up the passengers on tile highway

A inumber of the South Wales local authorities have decided to provide covered stand accommodation for buses. Llanelly has already made such provision for parking vehicles, and Bridgend

Is to call upon all owners to provide stands for themselves.

At Newport the corporation is urged by traders to allocate a part of the castle grounds to the provision of stand accommodation for biases and other motor vehicles.

Coaching. parties in South Wales. are generally embarked at some public open. air rendezvous, and the need for an alteration in this state of affairs is becoming recognized. At Cardiff the coaching section of the Motor Clearing

House, Wood Street, is run in conjunc tion with Cambrian Motors, Ltd. Here an excellently appointed waiting-room, to seat some 60 people and equipped with magazines, writing materials, etc., is provided, adjacent tol the booking office. The coaches start from an inside embarkation platform on the ground floor.

In the mining districts a number of coach proprietors have decided upon covered stand rendezvous for parties duritig 'the coming season.
