No less than 24 per annum is now paid by the War Office in respect of approved and seasoned horses (+fanners), and 10s. for cart-horses ; 10,000 in all are wanted on the registration lists. Some amazement was evident when. it was stated that until recently the War Office paid only 22 per annum for a five-ton motor lorry or tractor.
