• The winding up of the transport industry's official training body is to take effect immediately instead of September as planned.
The Road Transport Industry Training Board, which collects a levy from haulage firms to fund training grants and courses, will become a non-statutory limited company, RTITB Services, on 1 April next year.
Under its new status the RTITB will still be able to provide training for the industry but it will not be allowed to claim levies. Training standards will be set by the new Road Haulage Standards Council.
