Ltd., applied to the West Midland Licensing Authority to run an express service from Nuneaton district to Torquay on Saturdays during the summer, a colliery workers' union officer said that miners and their families much preferred to visit the south coast than Blackpool and other northern resorts.
An objection was lodged by the Railway Executive but this was withdrawn when the applicant agreed not to pick up passengers in Nuneaton itself.
The licence was granted.
