Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• Halifax-based Hamnett has bought a novel crane/trailer combination for its machinery moving and installation work. A massive Palfinger lorry loader is mounted on a Belgian-built Faymonville trailer, often making a mobile crane unnecessary.

The 62t/m PK66000 crane is mounted on a detachable subframe at the rear of the trailer. A hydraulic wedge locking system allows the crane to be demounted within five minutes.

The stepframe, four-axle trailer is the only one of its kind in the UK: it is extendible from 12-19.2m and the rear three axles are steerable.

Faymonville and Palfinger worked together to design of the subframe, which gives owner Keith Hamnett an exceptionally flexible combination: the trailer can be used with his 6x2 Renault Magnum (plated at 60 tonnes),

his 80-tonne 6x4 Renault Major, or his latest tractor—a 6x4 Major designed for 120-tonne operation. This is also unique in the UK, and Hamnett is working on a mounting to attach the lorry loader to the tractive unit.

The crane is remotely controlled by radio. Its hydraulics, which consume around 55kW, are run from the tractive unit's PTO. "A donkey engine would have restricted operation," explains Hamnett. Maximum outreach is 20.5m with a load of 1,300kg—a fly jib could extend outreach to 27.5m. Peak lifting capacity is 20 tonnes at 3m.
