• Steno Line has told unions it plans to suck 330 dock workers at Dover and Newhaven in the run-up to its merger with P&O European Ferries.
Steno has moved to calm Fears that the massive redundancies could disrupt cross-Channel services. Up to a 1,000 jobs could eventually go if the merger is approved by French and UK monopoly offices, but a Steno spokesman says hauliers will see no change in the way the ferries are run.
