The Northern Division's area offices were opened on Monday last.

Speaking at a meeting of South Yorkshire hauliers and ancillary users last. week in Sheffield, the Transport Commissioner for the North-eastern Region, Major F. S. Eastwood, said that, so far, 10 per cent, of the vehicles of the holders of A, B and C licences and permits. in the Region had been enrolled in the Defence Lines, He appealed. for the enrolment of more vehicles in all sections.

Other speakers were Councillor Charles Holdsworth, of Halifax, who is a: member of the Road Haulage (Operations) Advisory Committee; Mr. Robert Hanson, of Huddersfield, .Road Haulage Officer for the Northern Division; and Mr. H. Grocock, chairman of the Sheffield Area Committee of the Hauliers' National Traffic Pool.

Approximately 300 operators attended the meeting, which adopted a resolution supporting the scheme.
