S. R. Vigor, commercial officer, ORS Parcels Ltd., is to retire on December 28. Behind this formal announcement lies a half-century career during which "JoeVigor, as he is known to hundreds of his friends in road transport, became widely recognised for his knowledge of road parcels rates and charges. Mr. Vigor began in 1919 with Carter Paterson, and after service in claims and accounts departments, also as an outdoor representative, he became assistant to the commercial manager in 1935 and acting commercial manager in 1941. In 1946, when the parcels services of Pickfords were merged with those of Carter Paterson, he became commercial manager for the joint services. In 1948, following nationalization, he was seconded to the British Transport Commission as road rates officer, later became assistant charges officer and in 1957 was appointed commercial officer, B R S. Mr. Vigor will be succeeded by D. L. Green, formerly operations officer.

H. E. Hill and G. F. Shipman are resigning from the board of Simms Motor and Electronics Corporation Ltd. with effect from December 31 B. F. W. Scott, E. J. Earnshaw, E. M'Ewen, J. W. Shield, J. R. Edwards, P.C.D. Mace and N. H. Ward will then join the board. S. G. Sloan continues as a director and becomes executive assistant to the managing director. G. E. Liardet. These are among the changes in the Simms group announced by Joseph Lucas (Industries) Ltd. following the recent appointment of Mr. Liardet, who is chairman and managing director of Simms Motor and Electronics Corporation Ltd., as a vice-chairman of Joseph Lucas. Other changes --Simms Motor Units Ltd.: S. G. Sloan and R. G. Sutton have resigned and B. F. W. Scott, L. R. Johnston and R. G. C. Messervy join the board. T. Paterson and A. C. Brown continue to be directors and become general manager and deputy general manager respectively.

Simms Motor Units {International) Ltd.: Following resignations on this board by Mr. Liardet, Mr. Sloan and Mr. Sutton; H. P. Astbury has joined the board and becomes chairman.

Crosland Filters Ltd.: Mr. Sutton, Mr. Liardet and Mr. Sloan have resigned: Mr. Astbury, W. Waller and M. D. Yates have joined the board and Mr. Astbury becomes chairman. L. P. J. Pike has also been appointed a director, responsible for home sales.

Simms Group Research and Developments Ltd.. Mr. Liardet has resigned. Dr. A. E. W. Austen and Dr. B. A. Jarrett have joined the board and the former becomes chairman. I. R. Pate' has been elected chairman of East Yorkshire Motor Services Ltd. in succession to A. F. R. Carling, who has resigned from the board. Mr. Carling, who had been managing director since 1955, was elected chairman temporarily upon the resignation of John Spencer Wills earlier in the year, when the company became a subsidiary of the Transport Holding Company. F. K. Pointon has been appointed a director of the company to fill the resulting vacancy.

S. J. B. Skyrme, who was elected deputy chairman of Southdown Motor Services Ltd. earlier in the year. has taken over the chairmanship and been appointed managing director, in succession to W. M. Drovers. who has resigned from the board. D. S. Deacon has been appointed a director to fill the resulting vacancy.

Bernard Allwood, 39. has been appointed sales manager (motor) of Metal Sections Ltd.
