ONDecember 12, the National Joint Industrial Council for the Road Passenger Transport Industry resumed discus,sions on a claim by the T.G.W.U. and the National Union of General and Municipal Workers, for a reduction in the working week, also for improvements in conditions of service for municipal road passenger transport workers in respect of spread-oyers, Sunday pay, annual holidays, and overtime and night-work rates.
The chairman was-Alderman W. Hradley, J.P., of Bolton, whilst Mr. A. C. Baker led for the employers' side, and Mr. Harold Clay for the trade unions.
After discussion, the employers' representatives stated that they considered the application so comprehensive and road passenger transport of such concern to the community that before proceeding further it was necessary to consult the Ministries of Labour and Transport.
The trade union representatives, whilst appreciating this view, urged that there should be no delay in resuming negotiations.
Discussions will be continued early in January.
