Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

A loss of E122,000 having been ire curred by Gloucester city ratepayers, on their tramway undertaking since Its inception in 1904, the city council is new considering the promotion of a Bill to run trolley-buses and motorbuses in place of the tramcars. The council contends that the greater mobility of either type of bus over the tramcar will avert dangers arising from the narrowness of some of the city streets. Furthermore, the council, having licensed 40 buses owned by private enterprises, fears that the transpert of the public in the city may pass entirely to private proprietors unless municipal buses are substituted for tramcars in the council's area.

Augmented Services at Leeds.

Leeds Watch Committee has granted applications from the following bus proprietors :—Messrs. T. Burrows and Sons for permission to augment a service between Leeds and Wath, via Wakefield and Barnsley ; Mr. C. Maltby for permission to augment a service between Leeds and Thorner ; the Harrogate and District Road Car Co., Ltd., for permission (a) to augment a service between Leeds and Harrogate, via Wetherby, and (b) to extend a service between Leeds and Pool to Weston.

Russia's Transport System.

According to official statistics, Russia's railway system consists now of 74,000 kilometres (46,250 miles) of lines compared with 63,630 (37,768 miles) in 1917; over 15,000 kilometres (9,375 miles) of new lines are projected. 0131 the other hand, motor traffic is very backward, especially lorry traffic, hilt it is said that the Government proposes to build a work which will be able to turn out 10,000 motor vehicles a year.
