Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• by Peter Lawton Scania may add a new Lightweight tractor to its range if a prototype performs well in trials. Derek Jones Commercials, of Northamptonshire, approached Scania for a lighter 6x2, so Scania took a 4x2 unit with a 3.9m wheelbase and got to work. The P114LA6x2NA 380 now features a 5,500kg lifting Hendrickson pusher axle with disc brakes and 19.5in wheels.

Kerbweight, including a full 360litre tank, air-flow kit, suzie boom and driver, is 7,550kg—some 450kg loss than an

equivalent twinsteer, and about 350kg less than a single steer.

Could this mean a new tractor in the rangeP Sales engineer Darren Brown says: "That depends on demand, but it really hinges on the results of the trial—how it performs in service."

The sleeper cab also features a load-sensing device which lowers the axle when needed, but with extra traction available on a time delay.

The tractor is aimed at operators routinely running at maximum gross weight. It will be on trial for six to eight months.

• ERF launched its own lightweight contender last year, the EC Lite, which also uses 19.5in wheels and weighs 400kg less than standard-spec 6x2 tractors (CM 6-11 Aug).
