The Huddersfield Corporation last week accepted delivery of the 5o 00 lip. Argyll fire tender which we reproduce herewith.

The Prestwich Town Council has agreed to send a deputation to meet the Tronn Ayr and Maybole authorities to discuss the question of acquiring a motor fire-engine.

At the last meeting of the Croydon Borough Council, the General Purposes Committee recommended in connection with a proposed improvement of the fire brigade service that in the first instance two motor fire-engines be obtained at an estimated cost of £1,800.

Edinburgh Hesitates.

We observe, from the reports in the local Press, that there were lively scenes at the Edinburgh Town Council on the 12th inst., when the matter of prompt action, or delay, in regard to the purchase of motor fire-engines, came up. Treasurer Leishman drew attention to the fact that the original specifications were for six-cylinder engines, and delay was agreed by 19 votes to 17 ; the whole matter appears to be deferred for a month.

Several members of the Fire Prigade Committee expressed their intention to resign.

Inquiry at Litherland.

Further to our reference, on the lath inst., to the Litherland District Council's fire-brigade scheme, a Local Government Board inquiry was held on the 11th inst.. into the council's application for sanction to borrow £1,300 for the erection of a fire station and the purchase of a motor fire-engine and appliances. or this sum, 2300 is to be allocated

to the erection of the fire-station, and 21,000 for the purchase of the engine and equipment. Mr. John Blundell, a member of the council, and one of the largest ratepayers in the district, objected to the scheme on the ground that one fireengine was insufficient. The inquiry was closed, and the award of the L.G.B. is expected shortly.

Blackbura Decides to Wait.

For the absurd reason that it has no accommodation for motor fireengines at present, the BlaAburn Town Council has decided to continue to work its present horsedrawn engines until they are worn out, and then to go in for motors.

Motor Equipment for York.

Alderman J. Birch, of the York City Council, when moving the adoption of the Watch Committee's eport, drew attention to the fact that it was recommended that the council should purchase a motor

fire engine fitted with an escape and` first-aid appliance at a cost of: 21,090. He stated that the present. fire-escape in usewas out of date,. and cumbersome ; it required forits handling the services of severat additional men and a horse. After some little discussion, the report was adopted. We can only hope that this first-aid equipment wilttake the form of a fully-equippect motor with turbine pump.

chemical cylinder fire-engine, pump, hose tender and escape wits sliding carriage 55 ft. in length ; and (b) a pair-horse combine& chemical fire-engine, hose tenderand fire-escape with sliding carriage55 It. in length. The council's an, nouncement does not make it dear as to whether these are alternative schemes.
