THE INSTITUTION of Mechanical Engineers is already well advanced with planning a number of conferences for next year. One which will be held from March 18 to 20 and will probably interest several fleet engineers, is on the reduction of friction and wear in engines.

The following technical areas will be dealt with: design and construction of engines to achieve reduced friction and wear; lubricant and material behaviour; measurement and evaluation of friction and wear; and analysis and prediction of friction and bearing behaviour.
