We regret to announce the death, on September 21, at 61 years of age, of MR. JOHN CAIRNS, transport manager for the Scottish Co-operative Wholesale Society, Glasgow. He entered the newly formed transport department of the S.C.W.S. in 1904 and later was appointed assistant transport manager
under the late Mr. John Wilkinson, to whose position he ultimately succeeded as manager. For three years up to 1930 Mr. Cairns held 'the transport manager's position at Leith, and following the retiral of Mr. Caldwell, transport manages at Glasgow, he was appointed to the larger department . there. Mr. Cairns was first Scottish President of the Industrial Trasnsport Association and was a member of the Institute of Transport. He was closely associated, also, with the activities of the Scottish Commercial Motor Users' Association. Since the war he had served on the Transport Advisory Council.
