Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• Commercial vehicle cleaning should no longer be considered a chore, but an essential part of servicing, Mr. A. Morris, director of Sirroma Transport, told the Scottish centre of the Institute of Road Transport Engineers.

The problems were now being considered scientifically, he said. Fleet owners had to get the best for their money. The answer was regular cleaning. It had been estimated that a clinically clean job could be produced on the largest, dirtiest vehicle for as little as E1—and in about 25min.

For smaller operators the installation and operation of a commercial vehicle wash was out of the question. "Is it not time for the medium and small operators to demand some service? It could be easily organized on a private or co-operative basis, and if the MoT testing centres are going to insist on a standard of vehicle cleanliness would it not be advisable for the vehicle to be cleaned on site prior to examination, and this same service made available to local fleet owners?"
