EXTENSIONS which will more than .1—+ double the size of the existing plant are nearing completion at the Elmore factory of Ashok Leyland, Ltd., Madras. Progressive manufacture of Leyland Cornet oilers is being undertaken there for sale throughout India.
Twenty per cent, of the value of Comet chassis is now produced in India. Leyland Motors, Ltd., are investing 035,000 for the installation of equipment, and Indian investment is being absorbed to bring the capital up to iI.5m. By the end of the year, it is expected, 30 per cent, of the value of' the Comets (excluding Indian-made tyres and batteries) will be indigenously produced. and by the end of )959. 60 per cent.
