Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

AFTER travelling 450 miles in a day, a lorry driver suggested to his employers that the trip should be rearded as taking two days,: it was stated at 13rigg (Lines) Magistrates' Court, last week. The deception failed because his vehicle had been .checked near` Nottingham going away from Broughton, Lines, and on the return journey from Bristol.

Fines totalling a were imposed on the driver,. Michael W. Hankins, North Owersby, for Making a false record. driving more. than 11 hours in 24, and failing to take 10 hours' rest. His efriployers, Wells Bros., hauliers, Broughton, were fined £24 for causing Hankins to commit the offences.

None of the defendants appeared, but pleas of not guilty were entered on their behalf. The prosecution claimed that Hankins' records were ".entirely fictitious." He had suggested to John R. Wells, one of the three proprietors of the business, that because he had exceeded his permitted hours on July 15, the journey should be logged as starting the previous day.

Wells, it was stated, denied all knowledge of Hankins' journey times, or of his having worked excessive hours. The magistrates ordered the defendants to pay £4 4s. advocate's fee.

GUARD RAILS FOR LORRIES?

APROPOSAL that guard rails should be fitted along the sides of heavy goods vehicles, between the front and rear wheels, has been approved by the North Midland Accident Prevention Federation, following three accidents in Nottingham in which cyclists were killed after falling under the rear wheels of lorries.

The Federation have also accepted a resolution that hydraulic brake systems should be designed so that a failure in the master cylinder, or the pipes connecting it with the front brakes, should not affect the rear brakes, and vice versa.
