Mr. Smith joined London Transport as a bus driver after the last war and served on numerous committees including the central bus and negotiating committee. He was appointed an officer in the central bus section in 1962. became schedules officer the same year, and London district secretary in 1965. Alan Thomson recently became national secretary of the TGWU passenger group, filling the vacancy caused by the death of Sam Henderson.
