JAMES WEST, one of Fife's best 73.

Mr West was born and brought up in Dunfermline, where he joined his father's firm, David West and Son, after leaving school.

The company was nationalised in 1947 then denationalised seven years later. At its peak, it ran 50 lorries on long distance haulage throughout Britain.

The Transport Development Group acquired the company, retaining Mr West as managing known hauliers, has died aged director. When it was merged with John Russell of Grangemouth, he set up a haulage brokerage, David West Haulage, with his son, and worked in the business until his death.

He was a director of the Fife Hauliers Training Group, and past chairman of the Fife Hauliers Group Training Scheme. He was a long serving rotarian in Dunfermline and a keen sportsman.
