A. new tool, the object of which is to remove the ridges sometimes forming at the top of the cylinder owing to the piston rings striking against the unworn ledge of metal, has been placed on the market by the Perfect Circle Co., Ltd., 10, Store Street, London, W.0.1. The ridge reamer is capable of dealing with cylinders of diameters ranging from 21-k ins. to 41 ins.

The device embodies three rollers, which, when the tool is expanded by means of an adjusting screw, make contact with the cylinder wall just below the ridge. A T-shaped wrench is embodied in the appliance and it is claimed that two or three turns are sufficient for the removal of the ridge. The cutter, which is made of Haynes Stellite, is guided by the rollers and• will cut in exact alignment with the cylinder wall.

A special model for dealing with Ford vehicles, Fordson tractors and other machines having cylinders ranging in diameter from 31 ins. to 41 ins. is also being marketed.

Fenders Wanted in Egypt.

The Commercial Secretary to the Residency, Egypt, reports that the Ministry of the Interior, Municipalities and Local Conaroissions Section is calling for tenders, which have to be presented in Egypt by December 31st next, for the supply of two 2-2-}-ton lorries and a 2i-ton watering vehicle. Those concerns in a position to offer British products can obtain further particulars from the Department of Overseas Trade, 35, Old Queen Street, London, S.W.1, references GX10938 and GX10939 being quoted.

Thornyeroft and Co., Ltd., has received an encouraging batch of orders following the recent .Olympia Show, these including repeats for some of the company's newer types of freight vehicle from Messrs. Scott and Sons, Ltd., of Bootle ; the Bristol Co-operative Society ; and Bucks Mechanical Transport Co.

, A Pressure-fed Oil Truck.

We publish on this page an illustration of the Corphil pressure-fed oil truck, which is being placed on the market by Mr. B. Philips-Smith, of Messrs. Corneille and Philips-Smith, 18, Charing Cross Road, London, W.O.2, who has had much experience in equipping commercial. vehicle garages.

The tank is of 50 gallons capacity and is mounted on three wheels. It is operated by pneumatic pressure from an air bottle, carried at the rear of the outfit. The measurement of the oil dispensed is carried out by filling the glass container mounted on the top of the tank ; filling is effected from the tank by air Pressure.The pressure is then trans tarred to the measuring glass for. discharging the oil by the operation of special air and oil valves. The glass container is graduated in half-pint markings to a.total of five quarts. The necessary air-pressure-reducing valves are included in the equipment; as well as safety valves, air-pressure gauge, etc. The forward swivelling wheel runs on ball bearings and all wheels are shod with material ensuring silent running.

The price of the truck, complete with a small air cylinder, is £50, an extra 12 15s. being charged when a medium' sized cylinder is supplied.

The Irish Free State imported 96 vans and lorries during September last The total for the first nine months of the year was 954 vehicles of an estimated value or £154,596, as contrasted with 1,033 and £157,847 in a similar period a year ago.
