• A car driver in Wakefield was killed when a trailer on top of a stolen flatbed vehicle fell on his car, Leeds Crown Court has heard.

The lorry, with the trailer on board, was left at the owner's locked yard in Barnsley. It was stolen by five men who, in their haste to get away, neglected to secure the trailer on the lorry. It toppled off at a road bend in Wakefield, landing on the bonnet of Gary Bower's car.

The driver of the vehicle, David Bentley, of Leeds, was jailed for four years for aggravated vehicle taking and death by dangerous driving. He was banned from dri ving for five years.

Danny Hanrahan, of Leeds Patrick Maloney of Leeds an Joseph Maloney, then of Hacknes London, were all jailed for three enr a half years while James Malone was sent to a young offenders' insti tution for the same period.
