Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

TECHNICIANS of the Eagle Engineer' ing Co., Ltd., Warwick, have evolved equipment for the conversion of a Scammell tractor coupling to an S.A.E. fifth-wheel type for use in the works. The equipment has frequently enabled a standard Bedford 8-ton tractor with Scammell coupling gear to be employed at short notice for moving semi-trailers with either type of coupling.

A detachable frame member is designed to act as a fifth-wheel carrier and is attached to the chassis by U-bolts at its front end, the rear of the frame being clipped to the Scammell ramp. A T-piecc incorporating a shut-off valve is inserted in the vacuum pipe line to provide the necessary hose connections to the semi-trailer. The equipment is suitable for most types of 8-10-ton semitrailer with S.A.E. couplings, and the conversion can be completed in about 30 minutes.

c8 The carrier is a fabricated stool with a corrugated plate for supporting the fifth wheel, an outrigged arm at the rear being provided to hold the plate when the semitrailer is unibupled, to prevent tilting. If there is sufficient demand for the conversion equipment by operators, the Eagle company will produce the camponents on a commercial basis for wider use.
