Ex-B.R.S. Lorries Licensed in Seven Traffic Areas : Large Number of Assignments : More R.5 Units Sold

SPECIAL A licences for many more lorries bought from British Road Services have been issued by seven Licensing Authorities. Details of these, together with the names of a number of hauliers who have successfully tendered for list R.5 units, are given below.

SCOTLAND Eleven lorries and two trailers with a total unladen weight of 38 tons have gone to Wks Transport, Ltd., Cupar. Other direct purchases have been made by Fraser Bros. Contractors (Greenock), Ltd., Greenock (one-3 tons); J. and A. Smith of Maddiston, Ltd., Maddiston (five lorries and three trailers-281 tons); Mr. David W. Ward, Alva (two lorries-8: tons); Mr. David M. Clarkson, Biggar (one3 tons); Mr. Archibald Galloway, Prestonpans (one-31 tons); Messrs: Bruce and Carswell, Fintray Mills, by Dyce (three91 tons); Messrs. Richard Mackay and Sons, Durness, by Lairg (one-3 tons); Messrs. T. B. Band Bros., Perth (one3 tons); and Mr. John Regan, 118 Solebay Street, London, E.3 (two-6 tons). Mr. Regan's lorries are based in Glasgow. Central Garage (Bathgate), Ltd., Bathgate, have transferred six lorries as follows: one (3 tons) to Mr: Alexander M. Wright, Dalkeith; one (3 tons) to Messrs. Russell of Bathgate,. Bathgate; one (3 tons) to Mr. William G. D. Pollock, Edinburgh; one (3 tons) to Mr. John B. Aitken, Linlithgow; one (21 tons) to Mr. Richard M. Christie, Aberdeen; and one (3 tons) to Messrs. West's Transport, Dunfermline. Mr. Aitken has also taken over an articulated outfit (2 tons) from Dalkeith Transport and Storage Co., Ltd., Dalkeith.

One (71 tons) of seven lorries (441 tons) taken over by Mr. Sans Anderson, Newhouse, was sold to him by Mr. David O'Hara, Glasgow. Three lorries sold to Mr. William M. Tripney, Grangemouth, by Mr. Ernest Sanderson, Glasgow, have been reassigned: two (61 tons) have gone to Messrs. John Sunk and Sons, Auchtermuchty. Mr. Sanderson has also sold a vehicle (3 tons) to James Rice and Co., Ltd., Glasgow.

Four lorries have also been assigned by Mr. James S. Dochard, Perth, who has bought another seven vehicles and a trailer (311 tons). Two lorries (6 tons) have gone to Messrs. D. and D. Transport, Dundee; one (41 tons) to Bety Swankie, Arbroath; and one (44 tons) to Messrs. J. and D. Nairn, Newburgh.

Saddlers Transport. Ltd., Leith, have had nine lorries (501 tons) made over to them by Peter Saddler and Co., Ltd., Leith.

Other assignments have been made as follows: Murphy Bros., Ltd., Syston, Leicester, a lorry and a trailer (6 tons) to Moore's Motors (Ayr), Ltd., Ayr; John Lee (Haulage), Ltd., Newcastle, two lorries (7 tons) to Mr. James K. Allan, Newarthill ; Mr. David J. Dunabie, Maidens, one (21 tons) to Messrs. Alex. Scott and Son, Drummore; J. W. Capstaff, Ltd., Newcastle upon Tyne, one (31 tons) to Mr. Robert E. Laurie, Glasgow ; and Ed. Robertson and Co., Ltd., Dundee, one (3 tons) to Allison's Transport (Contracts), Ltd., Dundee, and one (3 tons) to Mr. Thomas Baird, Cumbernauld.

NORTHERN AREA Layfield Transport Services, Ltd., Britannia Garage, Britannia Street, D28 Thornaby on Tees, have again been successful with tenders, this time for three Seddon 8-tonners. They were originally based at Newcastle upon Tyne and Sunderland.

Two-vehicle purchases have been made by Messrs. T. Park and Sons, Roachhurn, Tindale Sell, Carlisle, and J. W. Snee, Ltd., 45 The Close, Quayside, Newcastle upon Tyne. Messrs. Park's purchase compnsed Commer 7-tonners.

NORTH-WEST Six lorries and a trailer (311 tons) have been taken over by Mr. P. A. Goring, 49 Brackenbury Road, Preston, One (41 tons) was transferred to him by Messrs. Calvert Bros., Mafeking House, Brock, near Garstang, and one (41 tons) by Cusick (Oldham), Ltd., Oldham. Mr. Goring has now assigned three of the lorries and the trailer; one lorry (4: tons) going to Mr. W. Johnson, address not known: one (4: tons) to R. H. Millner, Ltd., Railway Arches, Kirkham; one (5 tons) to Calvert Bros.; and the trailer (21 tons) to Holden and Davies, Ltd.. Albion Garage, Hollin Bank, Blackburn.

Mr. J. Bradley, Albion Mill, Accrington, has transferred four lorries: two (10 tons) to Jack Bradley (Accrington), Ltd., Park Garage, Argyle Street, Accrington; one (21 tons) to Craven Transport, Ltd., Salterburn; and one (3 tons) to Messrs. Lawson and Ellis, Grindleton.

D. Hall and Sons, Ltd., 577 Walshaw Road, Bury, have acquired two lorries and a trailer, one lorry (3 tons) coming from B. Barnes and Sons, Ltd., Rawtenstall, and the other lorry and the trailer (81 tons) from Sivewright Transport and Storage, Ltd., Ship Canal House, King Street, Manchester. Sivewright Transport have also bought another lorry (31 tons).

Mr. A. Curran, 2a Ford Street, Liverpool, 3, who has taken over four articulated outfits (191 tons), has soldtwo (10 tons) to Messrs. Foster Bros., Dudley.

The North Western Licensing Authority has also granted special A licences for the following assignments: Mr. R. A. Cropper, Sledbrook Farm, Pemberton. Wigan, one vehicle (3 tons) to W. Knowles Bros, (Atherton), Ltd., 162 Hamilton Street. Atherton, have bought another lorry (71 tons). A first purchase has been made by Mr. J. T. Gorst, I Daisy Street, Skerton, Lancaster. It comprises a lorry weighing 31 tons unladen. YORKSHIRE A number of assignments has also been made in the Yorkshire area.

Jack Robinson (Leeds), Ltd., 7 Temple Gate, Leeds, have transferred a lorry to F. Heaton and Sons (Transport), Ltd, Toftshaw Garage, East Bierley; Mr. E Senior, 37 Bennett Street, Kimberworth, Rotherham, one to Mr. 11. .Marston, 155 Mulehouse Road, Sheffield, 10; Hacketts Haulage, Ltd., 229 Cross Lane, Salford, one to Mr. A. P. Hollingworth, Stoneleigh, Cumberworth, near Huddersfield, and one to Mr. W. G. Robinson, Royd Nook, Gilstead, Bingley.

Key Warehousing and Transport Co., Ltd., 22-24 Blackfriargate, Hull, who have taken over a trailer from McMasters (Haulage), Ltd., of the same address, have transferred a lorry to Mr. F. Parrott, Meadow View, Thorpe Willoughby, Selby. Two Morris-Commercial 6-tonners have been taken over from the Stockton depot of B.R.S. by Mr. J. H. Hitchcock, 59 High Street, Marske-by-Sea, Reclean WEST MIDLANDS Another nine lorries (61 tons) based in Birmingham have been acquired by The Liverpool Warehousing Co., Ltd., 39-41 Old Hall Street, Liverpool, 3. A repeat purchase has also been made by Messrs. Carr and Hodkinson, Fole Garage, Foie, of a lorry (4 tons). Mr. S. Washington, 38 Moor Lane, Bolehall, has taken over his first lorry (31 tons) from British Road Services. Five vehicles, including two articulated outfits (l7 tons) purchased by Mr. N. Beech, Hope Street, Hanky, have been transferred: the two articulated outfits (7 tons) have gone to Mr. J. H. Ferrington, and two lorries (61 tons) to Wellington Saloon Coaches, Ltd., both of Glenholm, Adrnaston Road, Wellington; and one (4 tons) to Messrs. Warburton and Sons, 50 Grove Street, Cobridge.

Mr. E. W. Davis. 54 Halesowen Road, Quinton, Birmingham, and Mr. J. T. Dais, 41 Scott Road, Great Barr, Birmingffam. whose purchase between them of six lorries (194 tons) was reported in The Commercial Motor on January 28, have now transferred them to Messrs. E. and J. Davis, Stockwell Road, Handsworth. Four lorries bought by Mr. R. N. Richardson, 100 Dudley Road East, Oldbury, have been assigned: one (41 tons) to Oldbury Transport, Ltd., of the same address; one (4 tons) to Messrs. Brewster Bros., 16 Wolseley Road, Bilston; one (41 tons) to Hayton Couthard, Ltd., Twynholm; and one (34 tons) to McKechnie.tfotors (Girvan), Ltd., Girvan. Brewster Bros. have in turn made over a lorry (3 tons) to Head's Transport, Ltd., Wood Lane, Short Heath, Willenhall.

Other assignments authorized by the West Midland Licensing Authority are: three lorries (15 tons) to Beresford Transport, Ltd., High Street, Tunstall, by Mr. K. Beresford, Dunkirk Farm, Bignall End, Stoke-on-Trent; two (131 tons) to Silver Roadways. Ltd., 21 Bermondsey Wall West, London, S.E.16, by Beresford Transport, Ltd.; and one (51 tons) of two lorries (11 tons) to Mr. N. T. Lloyd, Tcmeside Garage, Ludford Bridge, Ludlow, by Mr. F. A. Nixon, 7 Popes Lane, Oldbury.

EAST MIDLANDS

A three-vehicle unit has been taken over by Mr. G. W. Pell, Station Road. Kirton, near Boston. He has transferred one of the lorries to Messrs. C. Clark and Son, 48 Campden Crescent, Cleethorpes. Messrs. W. F. and F. Coxon, Station Road, North Thoresby, near Grimsby, have again been successful with tenders, the transport units in this case being 3711 (Easton, Stamford) and 4612 (Peterborough), both comprising a lorry weighing 3 tons unladen. They have been divided between Mr. T. H. Brown, Waltham, Grimsby, and Greaves and Lamming. Ltd., Cleethorpes. Two Special Traffics units have been acquired by Messrs. Bowmer and Kirkland. Church Street. Heage, near Belper.

One (2994). based in Birmingham, comprised a tractor (6 tons) and a 15-ton

platform trailer, and the other (3835), based in Manchester. a six-wheel lorry (3 tons) and a 20-ton drawbar low-loading trailer. Special A licences for two other articulated outfits (In tons) have been granted to Messrs. Bowmer and Kirkland by the East Midland Licensing Authority.

Yet another of the lorries reported in The Commercial Motor on February 18 to have been bought by Messrs. 0. G. Barnard and Sons Station Road, Stowmarket, has now been transferred. Weighing 51tons unladen, it has gone to Mr. R. V. Cortierd, Old Rectory, St. Michael's, Long Stratton. There was also a trailer (2) tons).

Two vehicles concerned in another pun. chase reported in that issue have now also charged hands. Bought by Mr. G. W. Machin, Sorriect Bank, Surflect.. they have hen transferred to Mr. A. H. Grimwadc's Transport, Ltd., Croydon's Lane Garage, Rayleigh, have transferred two lorries: one (51 tons) has gone to F. W. Williams (Transport), Ltd., in the Metropolitan Traffic Area. and one (3 tons) to Mr. P. le Christensen, Buntingford.

LONDON AND HOME COUNTIES Boston Stevedores, Ltd. (Tower Hill Transport), The Dock, Boston, Lines, have had special A licences for another 11 lorries (38 tons 16 cwt.) granted to them by the Metropolitan Licensing Authority. They are based in London.
