Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

CAN I say well done to Mr Bill Daniel for his bid to convert fellow hauliers to buy British? (CM, October 5). But Bill himself fell short of an all-British truck.

What do I mean? you are thinking. Well, he had his ERFs fitted with American-owned Cummins 320 engines. Why not have Rolls-Royce 320Li or Gardner LYT 300? So come on, Bill, if you buy any more artics let them have British engines.

Of course, a Rolls-Royce engine is built by Perkins these days, and Perkins is owned by Massey Ferguson, which is Canadian — when is a British engine not? Ed.
