Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

for distribution work

ONE OF the most sophisticated new semi-trailers in the country was a major attraction at the Distribution Services Show at Wembley. London, last week.

It is called the 6-Pack and is a joint venture between Tidd Strongbox and the contract grocery distribution specialist Glass Glover I)istribution.

The tandem axle step-frame trailer is divided into six-fulllength insulated compartments, three on the top deck and three on the lower deck.

A modified Transfrig refrigerator plant is installed inside the trailer on the neck of the step-frame and there is a micro-processor system to control the temperature inside each of the six compartments.

Any compartment can be either chilled, frozen or at ambient temperature. The trailer has been designed around Glass Glover's rolls cages, with 13 accommodated along each of the three upper compartments and 10 along each of the three lower ones.

This gives a design potential of 69 roll-cages, although Glass Glover is running this prototype with 66.

A conveyor system in the floor brings the roll cages to the rear of the trailer and on to a custom-built Ratcliff taillift which can be automatically positioned at the mouth of any of the six compartments.

The conveyor system doubles as load restraint for the roll cages and there is no reason for anybody to enter the trailer other than for cleaning.

Aluminium is used for the external skinning of the side walls and the trailer allows a 17-tonne payload at the 32.5tonne GCW limit.

Glass Glover has been using this prototype for two months on one of its grocery distribution contracts, which include Littlewoods, Tesco, Argyll Stores and Gateway.

These trials will continue before any future purchasing decision is made, although there is talk of a possible order for 50 more.

Glass Glover has to weigh up the increased productivity of this in distribution trailer, eliminating separate deliveries to the stores, against its .00,000 price.

The Tidd Strongbox/Glass Glover multi-temperature semi-trailer rides on 17.5-inch wheels with low-profile tyres.
