THE INSTITUTE of Road Transport Engineers last week celebrated its 40th anniversary.

Speaking at a lunch in London, former 1RTE president Sir Peter Masefield paid tribute to the enthusiasm of the institute's 15,000 members and the "good housekeeping" of its national council.

"Enthusiasm has been one of the features of this institute ever since it was founded.

Masefield went on to speculate about what might happen in the next 10 years of the IRTE's existence.

"By then, the M25 might be completed, the Channel Tunnel might have been started and perhaps a 48tonne, sprayproof artic without wheel studs which break may be in service," he said.
