THE UNIT around which design of all Austin productions is framed is the 25 h.p. engine (four-cylindered, in. bore by 5 in. stroke, the Treasury rating being 22.4 h.p., and its brake h.p. at 1,500 r.part. being 35). This power unit is used on the Austin touring car, commercial vehicle, and tra,c/ar. A chassis suitable for commercial vehicle work and capable of handling loads of 30 cwt., forms part of the exhibit. It is equipped with Austin detachable wheels and solid tyres, the transmission system being through a four-speed gearbox and a worm-driven rear axle. The equipment of the chassis consists of a

driver's cab of light pattern, with a, glass screen in front and side curtains; mudguards are supplied to all wheels; a set of five lamps, Mechanical horn, speedometer, etc., are provided; whilst an alternative equipment inchide.3 electric lighting and starting as an extra.

The completed vehicle shown is a 20sealer char-aibanes upholstered in leather and equipped with electric light, mounted on Nobby cord pneumatic tyree. These latter are 36 ins. by 6 ins. on the front wheels and 40 hes. by 8 ins, on the back wheels. The body is finished in chocolate colour, relieved by a broad gold line just below the panel moulding. The mudguards and under gear are in bleak There are no off-side

doors except the one to the driver's seat. The seats are upholstered in leather, and there is a gradual rice in the height of the seats by about I. in. per tier from front to rear, so that passengers sit about 4 ins. higher at the rear than at the front.

The 25 h.p. Austin tractor for road haulage has been developed as the outcome of Sir Herbert Austin's interest in power farming. It has already earned an excellent name as a means of operating farm implements and for road haulage. It has been described in the agricultural section of The Cornmerde Motor, but it is shown at Olympia with Its rear wheels equipped with rubber pads. A very great point about the Austin tractor is that the front axle is efearang, and•tbat it is equipped with twe Independent brakes. Shown coupled to the tractor is a trailer.
