• Congleton-based bodybuilder Boalloy has stepped up its attack on the continental commercial vehicle bodywork market with the setting up of a new company, and assembly plant, in Holland.

Tautliner Europa BV is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Boalloy and will be headed by Wim Van Dam. The 2,500m2 factory, situated close to the major industrial areas of Rotterdam, Utrecht and Amsterdam, will build Boalloy's Tautliner curtainsided bodywork for a number of continental trailer manufacturers such as Pacton, as well as its range of rigid vehicle bodywork including the 7.5 and 16 Liner bodies.

According to Boalloy's managing director Gerald Broadbent, over £150,000 has already been invested in the new plant which has won over 40 orders since its opening.

Tautliner Europa BY will link up with its French counterpart Transport Systeme France (TSF), which has been marketing locally-built Boalloy products in France and Germany since 1978.

TSF has also expanded into Spain, where a new company Transpor Systeme Espafia has been set up.

To help finance its continental attack, Boalloy has sold its American interests to its US licensee — Utility Trailer Manufacturing Company — for an undisclosed, but "substantial" sum. UTM will continue to build Tautliner bodywork under licence, but will still receive design and sales support from Boalloy.
