C.M.U.A. DRAWS UP REST-HOUSE LIST.

Some time ago the C.M.U.A. set up a committee to investigate the problems of finding suitable rest and other accommodation for drivers, and to devise means for securing better quarters. A special organization was established to inspect rest houses.

An official handbook giving details of the rest houses, caterers and cafes which the Association has approved and placed on its recommended list is being published in the New Year, and will be available to owners and drivers of commercial vehicles,

Operators who are in a position to make recommendations concerning suitable rest houses are invited to communicate with Mr. F. G. Bristow. C,B.E., general secretary, C.M.U.A., 50, Pall Mall, London, S.W.1.

B.R.F. Busy.

The following meetings, sponsored by the British Road Federation, are announced:—

November 24: Barking Rotary Club; speaker, Mr. G. G. Vincent, B.A., OR " Road Conditions and Public Safety." November 25: Blackpool Rotary Club; speaker, Mr. W. A. Gibson Martin, F.R.G.S. November 29: Sheffield Rotary Club; speaker, Major N, A Hardie.

Removers' Problems to be Discussed.

Mr. J. Riley, senior vice-president of the National Association of Furniture Warehousemen and Removers, will, next week, address an open meeting of removers on current problems, including costing, licensing and the T.A.C. Report. Operators in south-west and mid-Wales and Monmouthshire are urged to attend at the Grand Hotel, Westgate Street, Cardiff, on November 25, at 3 p.m.

Mr. E. A. Harris, F.C.I.S.. secretary of the Association, will deal with " some recent achievements thrOugh organized action."

Bolton Operators to Meet.

Operators and others interested in road transport are invited to attend an open meeting to be held under the auspices of A.R.O. East Lancashire Area on Wednesday next, November 24, at the Victoria Hotel, Hotel Street, Bolton, at 7.30 p.m. At the time of closing for press, details of the programme have not been settled, but prominent A.R.O. speakers have been invited.

Busy Programme for Manchester C.M.U.A.

Hundreds of operators and others are expected to attend the annual hot-pot supper of the C.M.U.A. Manchester Area, which is to be held at the Manchester Limited Restaurant, Cross Street, Manchester, on Tuesday next, November 23, at 7 p.m.

An important joint meeting arranged by the Manchester and South-East Lanes Areas is to take place on December 8, at the Memorial Hall, Albert Square, Manchester, at 7 p.m. On the following evening the annual hot-pot

supper of the Macclesfield branch will be held at the Angel Hotel', Ma.cclesfield, at 7.30 p.m. Other meetings in the area are as follow;— November 25, Royal Hotel, Crewe, 8 p.m. November November .30, Stamford Anne Hotel, Altrinebam, 7.30 p.m.,' December 6, White Lion Hotel, Stockport, 7.30 p.m.; December 7, Bull's Head Hotel, Congleton, 7.30 p.m.; December 14, King 'e Arms Hotel, Chapel-en-le-Frith, 7.30 p.m.; December 15, Wheatsheaf Hotel, Northwieb. 8 p.m.. Capt. Strickland to Attend C.M.U.A. Crewe Dinner.

The annual dinner of the C.M.U.A Crewe branch is to be held on January 20, at the Royal Hotel, Crewe. Capt. W. F. ariekland, M.P., will be the principal guest.

Car Badge for A.R.O. Members.

Those members, of A.R.O. who require a replica in miniature of the standard commercial-vehicle badge, for use on their private cars, can obtain one from A.R.O. headquarters. The price is 10s. 6d.

Local Body and National Issues.

Blackpool and District Road Haulage Association is holding an open meeting at Booth's Cafe on Monday, November 22, when the 13aillie and T.A.C. Reports will be discussed. Mr. T. Titchener will be in the chair. FOUR MORE LECTURES BY S.T.R.

Further lectures have been arrangeo for S.T.R., The Commercial Motor costs expert. Under the auspices of the C.M.U.A., he will lecture at the Fleece Hotel, Church Street, St. Helens, at 7.30 p.m. on December 7; at the White Hart Hotel, Sankey Street, Warrington, at 7 p.m. ou December 8; and at :the Wheatsheaf Hotel, Wallgate, Wigan, at 7.30 p.m. on December 9.

On December 10 he is booked to address a meeting under the auspices of K.R.O. at Market Drayton. The time and place of the gathering will be announced later.

Road Transport Facing Crisis.

The crisis that is facing the roadtransport industry in the immediate future will be the subject of an address by Major Eric Long, A.R.°. political adviser, to the Association's North London Sub-area, next week. The meeting will take place at the Hendon Club, Hendon, at 8 p.m. on November 22.

Lt-Core. J. Havers, vice-chairman of A.R.O. Metropolitan Area, will speak on the work of the Association 100th Meeting of Birmingham I. of T.

Last week, the committee of the Birmingham and district section of the Institute of Transport held its 100th meeting. A presentation was made to Mr. 0. C. Power, who was one of the original officers elected in 1923, and who has attended 98 meetings.

A presentation was made on behalt of Lord Austin to each of the officers and committeemen.

New C.M.U.A. Area President.

Mr. Bartle Bull, M.P., has accepted an invitation to become president of the Enfield and district area of the C.M, U. A.
