Its functions are disguised by a title of such ambiguity that Col Maurice Buckmaster, Ford's one-time head of public relations, might have been proud to have invented it when he was a leading war-time cloak-anddagger exponent. Its author, I suspect, seized on the neat acronym, DARTS, and, thrashing around for words to fit it, came up with Dealer Applica tion Remote Terminal System.
