WHO IS THIS lain Sherriff of Sutton who writes to the BBC Radio 4 Today programme? Could he be the revered editor of this journal?
He complained of the camouflage practised by cycling "paper boys" he encountered on his 21-mile daily drive between 6.15am and 7am. They made themselves as inconspicuous as possible in the dark by failing to wear luminous clothing, or to have effective lights, apart from which most of them slung their satchels on the "traffic" side instead of on the left, which is safer. Their parents and employers should, he urged, give them a muchneeded lesson in road safety.
These phantom cyclists are worrying enough for car drivers, but for lorry drivers, sitting high above them they must be a nightmare.
"STRIKER'S pipe cut by gasmen" said the headline to a newspaper report on the water workers' strike. Those who hoped it was his windpipe were disappointed.
