NETLON, a plastic components manufacturer of Blackburn, has developed a plastic mesh anti-spray device for commercial vehicles.

The original idea to use a number of layers of plastic mesh came from Allan Buckley, a lorry driver from Rochdale. Netlon has improved the "pot scourer" design by reducing the number of layers required to what it now believes is the optimum mesh configuration.

The major advantages claimed for the Netlon rain flaps are that their performance in reducing spray is superior to the metal and plastic/rubber alternatives and they do not corrode or suffer fron clogging problems. A patent has been applied for.

Netlon wants to reach a marketing agreement for its rain flaps with a company already involved in the commercial vehicle business and is reported to be "currently discussing worldwide selling arrangements with a number of companies who have indicated an interest."

In the meantime, however, the flaps are available from Netlon at a cost of about E27 per axle. The Seddon Atkinson 301 road tested this week was fitted with Netlon rain flaps.
