Boalloy went into receivership in October 2007 and was then purchased by Edward Stobart (CM 14 February 2008). Since then, Fastruck has been re-established followed by a resumption of the renowned Tautliner trailer and bodywork production line.

Dennison Trailers Lancaster, Lancs

Dennison builds a range of 44t GCW bolted curtainsiders, with galvanised front corner uprights and rear door pillars, heavy-duty galvanised steel hump stops and front and rear ratchet tensioners. Options include several neck thicknesses, bolted flush front bulkhead, load strap pockets and a choice of rear closures. They include barn-type or flush alloy doors.

There's a selection of welded or pocketed side curtains, GRP side skirts and wind deflectors too.

Don-Bur [Bodies & Trailers) Longton, Staffs

Don-Bur's in-house trailer and bodywork production process includes chassis, bodywork, curtains, load restraint and graphics plus accident repair, servicing. MoTs and refurbishment.

This one-stop-shop policy suits such customers as John Lewis, Business Post, Next and TK Maxx.

Don-Bur specialities include double-deck and lifting-deck trailers, PcoStream' sloping front profiles and its aerodynamic 'Teardrop' trailer which offers around 10% fuel savings and extra loadspace too.

The design has convinced several blue-chip clients including Marks & Spencer.

Don-Bur fully lifting and multi-deck trailers can be built with full or 1i-length hydraulic floors, ratchet, butterfly or revolving decks and with mesh or panel flooring.

Gray & Adams Fraserburgh, Aberdeenshire

Gray & Adams builds various boxvans, some with insulated bodies and others with double-decking.

One new client is master baker Warburtons, which wants a number of fixed second-deck trailers for its trunking operation. These have a special neck length to cater for the maximum number of its new baskets and new load restraint system too.

Twin-deckers for City Link are 4.3m overall with 1.9m headspace on each level and have two-tier internal lifts and hydraulic loading ramps. Using BPW stub axles and Tridec suspension, they achieve a 350mm floor height.

Kel-Berg's Danish factory builds 1,000 trailers a year, and its UK dry freight portfolio includes boxvans and curtainsiders equipped with standard or 'mega' style bodywork.

There's a choice of fixed manual/hydraulic second decking or a variation such as two hydraulically operating 7.0t half-decks. Roof options include fixed, sliding or manual/hydraulic lifting.

Kassbohrer & Talson Trailers Goch, Germany

Kassbohrer and Talson-branded dry freighters are marketed here by Halifax-based KassTal Trailers.

The newest additions are UK-spec Kassbohrer streamlined 4.8m double-deck curtainsiders which are assembled in Wakefield, West Yorkshire by Mic-ra Truck Bodies.

The new sloping roof design has been designed with UK high-volume, pallet-to-parcels logistics fleets in mind, and complements existing Goch-built Kassbohrer curtainsiders, double-decks and swap. body systems.

Talson designs include garment carriers with Talfix slotted side panels, and roller-floored air cargo trailers; some bodies are chilled or refrigerated, while double-deck vans may have optional integral tail-lifts.

Krone's dry freight standard is the Profi Liner curtainsider with sliding roof. extending rear steps and multilock raves. These are key to using its versatile Multi Safe load-securing systems.

Other dry freighters are Mega Liners, steel coil and paper carriers.

Krone's Dry Liner boxvan comes with a steel roof, slotted side panels for garments or extra deck supports for backloads.

Lawrence David's dry freight range includes the Box Van, Curtain Slider and Fuel Saver versions with sloping rooflines.

Its 50-unit weekly dry freight output is mainly taken up by double-deckers of various types. Most have fixed structures but it also builds a large number with hydraulic lifting platforms. Other stepdeck versions lift mechanically, locking in at 150mm vertical intervals, up to a maximum of 2.1m.

There is also a steady growth in demand for LD pillarless curtainsiders and short two-axled urban artics equipped with Tridec command steer systems.

Montracon builds dry freight trailers to bespoke and stock designs, at Doncaster and Mallusk. Northern Ireland, for anyone from owner-drivers to blue-chip fleets.

Max-height models head up a wide range of curtainsiders and boxvans, the latter including singleaxle models for retail distribution.

Backed by authenticated test figures, the canted front roofline has now been made optional on all high-roof vans and curtainsiders and standard on the double-deck reefer. Other choices include unsupported roofs, fixed or sliding posts, and multidecked superstructures. Numerous pre-engineered additions are added on the assembly line.

Schmitz Cargobull UK Harelaw, Co Durham

Schmitz says that in the first nine months of its 2007/8 fiscal year, curtainsider sales have about doubled. In UK it builds around 3,000 reefer and curtainsider trailers annually.

Harelaw builds three 44t versions, all with galvanised bolted chassis; the standard posted S.C.S and the Freeposter with its pre-stressed cant rails, sturdy braces and sprung curtain rollers.

The S.CS Mega is 4.04m. whereas the `Varios' roof is adjustable up to 4.2m.

Base models have Rotos running gear with EBS and roll stability program, 7.1t heavy-duty floor, aluminium roof, floor lashing rings, high-security curtains, ferry shackles, sliding posts and steel wheels.

Unladen weight is around 6.7t.

The S.K0 Express hoxvan uses special Ferroplast panels with recessed loadlock or extra decking. Barn doors and roller shutters are options.

Van Eck Beesd, The Netherlands

Van Eck builds dry freight trailers for the packaging industry, chemicals transportation and air freight services.

Its standard two-deck ECKstreme box trailer can take up to 55 euro-pallets, around 60% more than its single-decker. With insulated bodies, such trailers can carry vegetables, fresh flowers, plants and dairy products too.

Specialities include 66-euro-pallet TripleFlex megas, hydraulically compressing foam carriers and a modified mega to take aero engines. This has chassis side extenders and an expanding tail-end for extremely wide crates.

With the demise of Essex Trailers, Belgian manufacturer Van Hool has changed its representation for the UK and appointed David George's Trailer Marque as its sales and service agency for the UK and Ireland.

The new company will sell Van Hool dry freight curtainsiders, boxvans, road tankers and skeletals. with full service support, including accident repairs from three CV workshops in Nottingham, Bury St Edmunds and Sidcup.

Van Hool produces around 5,000 trailers a year of all types.

Keighley, W Yorks

Multideck specialist W Trailer's dry freight offerings range from drawbar combinations to multi-axled semi-trailers.

The range includes the 4.82m-high Eco-Deck with extra mesh decking and sloping roofline and the Table-Deck with foldaway mesh decks. Rental company Deker Trailers uses the EcoDeck while the latter model is also popular with UK/Continental fleets.

W Trailer builds double-decked corporate hospitality trailers, straight-frame curtainsiders with unsupported roofs — some with forklift attachments for accessing tight locations to load or unload cargoes independently.

Specialities include short urban trailers with positive steering and tuckaway tail-lifts, and even poultry carriers. One client, Radmode Trailer Hire, has ordered a batch all equipped with Isifoffet rear forklift attachments and Tridec positive rearsteering axles.
