Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

Municipalities Taking Over Certain Private Services and Several Operating Companies Absorbing Smaller Concerns.

A NUMBER of amalgamations of J1. motorbus interests has taken place recently in the West Riding of Yorkshire. The Hebble Services, of Halifax (Messrs. 0. and C. Holdsworth), have obtained a controlling interest in the business of Mr. T. Brigg, of Wilede-1. Some time ago Mr. Brigg took over all the vehicles on the route from Bradford, via Allerton, Wilsden, Harden and Bingley, and held licences in Bradford and Bingley. The Hebble routes crossed Mr. Ilrigg's routes in some places, and ran in competition on the Election between Harden and 33ingley.

Following negotiations in London in connection with the Bradford Corporation Bill, a change in the control of the Calder Services, of Bailiff Bridge, was announced. The Calder Services have

been built up very rapidly, and with a fleet of 14 Leyland Lion and Lioness vehicles not only are local routes covered, but services are run to Huddersfield, Brighouse, Halifax and Brad

ford. With the change in interests Bradford Corporation and Huddersfield Corporation will take over the more important services of the company.

The West Yorkshire Road Car Co. is still further extendtng its operations. The motorbus services of Blythe and Berwick, Ltd., of Bradford, were taken over some time ago, and are now run in conjuncticn with the West Yorkshire

services. Now, it is understood, the motorbus side of Messrs. Keighley Bros., of Chapel Lane, Keighley, has been purchased by the Road Car Co.

Messrs. Keighley Bros. founded a successful motor-haulage business before the war, and ran motor coaches shortly after the war period. They commenced the motorbus side of the concern some years ago on the Keighley-to-Silsden route. Now they operate between Keighley and Ilkley, Ilkley and Skipton, Ilkley and Grassington, Skipton and Otley, Skipton-Otley-Wetherby and York. They have also secured licences in Keighley for the Keighley-Bradford route, and have just commenced an express service between the two places. They were granted licences by Keighley when Messrs. Blythe and Berwick amalgamated with the West Yorkshire Road Car Co. Messrs. Keighley Bros. have a fleet of about 20 up-to-date buses, mostly Leylands.
