Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

This journal is extensively read by the heads of many wealthy commercial houses.

Readers who may desire to attend the Third International Road Congress, which will begin in London on Monday next, should immediately send one guinea, to the Hon. General Secretary, Mr, W. Rees Jeffreys, Queen Anne's Chambers, Westminster, S.W.

Round Bolton.

The North and East Lancashire branch of the Commercial Motor Users Association, of which Mr. J. H. Jepson, A.C.A., of District Chambers, Darwen, is the Secretary, has been making good its organization in Bolton. Owners whose vehicles pass through this notorious Lancashire borough undoubtedly have much to gain by mutual support. Nine important local firms have recently joined.

History Repeats Itself.

The troubles of some provincial carrying companies are again exemplified by the failure of the Road Transport Co., Ltd., which was formed early in 1912 to serve the Potteries, Liverpool, and Manchester. Second-hand machines were purchased, and we have reason to believe that they were heavily overloaded. Too high a daily mileage was attempted, and other serious errors of administration have to be noted. This kind of thing does nothing but harm to commercial motoring generally, and we are afraid we have not by any means seen the end of mistakes of this class.

Topical Subjects.

Our leading articles this week deal -with the following topical subjects : (1) " Steam Wagons for Australia " ; (2) " Another C.M.U.A, Branch Projected " ; (3) "The Forthcoming Royal Show " ; (4) "The Advertisement of Olympia: Early Date of the Press Function" ; and (5) " Motorbus v. Tramcar."

Periodic Inspections.

One of this week's " Opinions from Others," over the signature of Mr. C. M. Linley, serves to direct attention, equally with the first instalment of an article on "Garages for Commercial Vehicles " by Mr, G. W. Watson, to the important benefits which owners may obtain by reasonable advisory and consulting arrangements with competent and expeiienced motor engineers. The Cannock Chase Coal Owners Association has put a 30 h.p. Lacre rescue vehicle into service at Hednesfoeci. Accommodation is provided for six men, together with the necessary appliances that are required for use m case of accidents at collieries.
