Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

Powered pallet truck

Rolatruc Ltd. has added to its range a sit-on or stand-on, electrically powered pallet truck for the transportation of loads over long distances and having a capacity of 4,480Ib. A foot-operated accelerator gives two forward and two reverse speeds with a maximum speed under load of 7.5 mph in either direction. The BT LT2OR as it is known also has a foot-operated brake.

The drive motor is built into the drive-wheel and powered by a 24V battery of 162 Ah capacity. The load weight is distributed over seven points. Steering is by a well-positioned wheel on the driver's right-hand side and forward or reverse control is by a lever just below the steering wheel. Push-button lift and horn buttons are on the driver's left-hand side.

The truck is offered with two standard fork widths of 22.5in. and 27in, and a fork length of 40in. Any non-standard widths and lengths are available on request. The unit is highly manoeuvrable and comfortable to ride over long distances. Its overall length is 32in. in excess of the fork length.

Reflective sheeting

Internally illuminated signs and headboards can now be faced with Scotchlite translucent reflective sheeting. This material allows light to pass through freely, when signs are working normally, but, its reflective properties ensure that, if the light source fails the signs are still clearly visible in vehicle headlights from several hundred yards.

It has already been successfully used for road signs in parts of the South of England and Midlands, where it has proved invaluable in the event of bulb failure, power cuts or damage to bollards or other internally-lit signs.

Signs using the material are silk-screen printed twice—once on a translucent sheeting and once on a plexiglass mounting, so that the appearance and colour are identical, whether the sign is lit or reflecting.

The 3M Co. Ltd. supplies reflective sheeting for safety number plates and a wide variety of traffic and other signs.

Lifting axle

An adaptation of the Continental-type trailers' lifting rear axle has been built into two new tanker trailers used for tar spraying by Aubrey Watson Ltd., civil engineering contractor of Henley and New Malden.

Object of the lifting axle is to enable large capacity tankers to be used for actual tar spraying operations while, at the same time, obviating any scrub action from the tandem wheels during spraying and when they are making tight turns in narrow roads. A considerable saving in tyre wear is achieved as a result of this and because the trailers are also able to run on one axle when empty.

Highway Trailers built the units which are 26ft long and of 28 ton g.v.w. They feature Rubery Owen M-type suspension. Lifting action on the front axle is achieved by use of special hydraulic jacking equipment. A oneminute operation of an hydraulic hand-pump moves a sub-frame which bears on the rearmost end of the balance beams and which forces the rear axle to take the total bogie load while lifting the front axle to allow a 5in. to 6in. ground clearance for the wheels. Tyre inflators

Electronically-controlled Eichenauer Air-Robot tyre inflation equipment is now being distributed in this country by Grantham Rubber Machinery Co. Ltd.

By pre-setting the desired tyre pressure on the gauge dial, and connecting the air chuck to the tyre valve, a pre-determined. amount of air is automatically pumped into the tyre. If the tyre is initially over-inflated, the instrument automatically deflates it: if underinflated, it inflates to the pre-set value. A signal lamp glows during the automatic operation.

The unit is available with either a singleor dual-hose assembly (with which two tyres can be inflated at the same time) and is suited for use in repair shops or in the fleet user's garage.

The Air-Robot is equipped with a coilspringloaded pressure gauge with a 250mm diameter scale, double divided into p.s.i.

and kg/cm2. This industrial-type tube pressure gauge is equipped with silver palladium contacts and is claimed to have an accuracy in pressure reading of plus or minus 1 per cent. Marketed by: Grantham Rubber Machinery Co. Ltd., Grantham, Lincs.
