• The new Freight Sundries division of British Railways on next Monday launches a special service which offers next day delivery—or Your Money Back!

Known as the Yellow Diamond Express Service, it will operate initially between London–Manchester, London–Leeds and London–Newcastle upon Tyne. It may be extended as experience develops over the pilot routes. Consignments are collected in central London for forwarding to specific postal districts in Manchester, Leeds or Newcastle.

At the London depots at Camden and King's Cross there is a Yellow Diamond priority path into waiting Freightliners which run through the night to arrive at their destination early next morning. All goods will be delivered by van during the day.

The service operates irt the same way from the three northern cities to the capital.

Special charges will be made for a priority service of this type, but they will be refunded in full if the goods are not delivered on time.

"This new guaranteed Yellow Diamond express service will make the transport world sit up", says Peter Land, at 41 the youngest general manager in nationalized transport. "We are making a start with London and three leading northern cities, but this is only a beginning. Many places can justify a fast-freight inter-city service such as Yellow Diamond.

"We're not going to rush our fences, though. Reliability is the key, and we shall build up steadily. Then everyone will know that Yellow Diamond really means top speed, top security and top service."
