DESPITE rising costs, road haulage traffic is still increasing, reports the Department of Transport.
Provisional road traffic figures for the third quarter of last year show that there was an overall one per cent drop in the volume of traffic, but lorry traffic increased by 2.7 per cent over the same time in 1978.
Light van (under 30cwt unladen) traffic, affected by the use of many for personal transport, dropped by 1.3 per cent at the same time.
The growth of goods traffic continues a trend set in the second quarter of 1979, when there was a 4.6 per cent rise, against a 2.8 per cent fall in light van traffic and a 2.1 per cent overall increase in traffii.).
