Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

the introduction of tachographs were mentioned. I operate a large fleet of municipal refuse collection vehicles. Will these be exempted from the need to/it tachographs?

A Not so far as we are aware. The EEC regulation 1463 /70 states that tachographs will be compulsory on all passenger or goods carrying vehicles. The only exemptions are listed in regulation 543 /69. Though these specifically mention vehicles used by drainage authorities there is no reference to refuse collection vehicles. It would seem, therefore, that these will have to be fitted with the equipment.

This is the full list of vehicles exempt from the EEC requirement to fit tacho graphs: 1, passenger vehicles constructed for carry ing not more than nine passengers, including the driver; 2, goods vehicles, including any trailer, which has a maximum permitted weight not over 3.5 metric tons; 3, passenger vehicles on regular services where the route covered does not exceed 50km (31.07 miles).

4, vehicles used by police, armed forces, fire brigades, civil defence, drainage or flood prevention authorities, water, gas or electric services, postal authorities for the carriage of mail, or by radio and television services; 5, vehicles used for the carriage of sick or injured persons and for carrying rescue material and specialized breakdown vehicles; 6, tractors with a maximum permitted speed not over 30 kmph (18.6 mph).
