A TRUCK DRIVER is recovering in hospital following a road rage attack in Liverpool which left him needing surgery The incident happened at around 6.45pm on Monday 9 February as the 37-year-old was driving along East Lancashire Road towards St Helens. He stopped at traffic lights near the Kirby turn off when a man opened his cab door and assaulted him, causing serious head injuries.

Police are appealing for witnesses to the assault that they believed involved a red or maroon car, possibly a Fiesta or a Fiat. The victim says he remembers seeing a car of this description with two men inside.

He believes he may have acci dentally driven in front of the car prior to the attack and the offenders threw plastic bottles at his truck.

Detective Constable John Webster says he is keen to contact -two good Samaritans" who helped the victim, as they may have vital information.
