Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

TWENTY-THREE complaints of irregular running by Messrs. W. R. and P. Bingley, Kingsley, Messrs. W. Everett and Son. South Kirkby, and Messrs. L. L. Cooper, South Kirkby: were made by the Yorkshire Traction Co., ltd., to the Yorkshire Licensing Authority, last week.

Mr. R. Coutts. traffic and goods manager of the company, said that the three firms were carrying fare paying passengers beyond Hemsworth contrary to a 1950 agreement. The main complaint concerned interference with the company's 5.25 p.m. service from Hemsworth, and it was estimated that 6d. a mile was being lost on the liemsworth-Upton route.

Mrs. P. Bingley, a partner in Messrs. W. R. and P. Bingley, suggested that there had been some irregularity with the 5.25 p.m. bus. Workers leaving a mill at Hemsworth at 5.30 p.m. should be carried by the united service run by the three firms, but a Yorkshire Traction bus took them instead. It was untrue to suggest that a joint service bus ran in front of the 5.25 p.m. bus and so deprived it of 'passengers.

The Licensing Authority reserved his decision.

The Duke of Gloucester (centre) an the Perkins stand at the Smithfield Show, last week. With him ari ue(t) Sir Patrick Hennessy, chairman of the Ford Motor Co.. Ltd., and Capt. A. I. M. Richardson, deputy chairman of F. Perkins, Ltd.. who

received the Royal visitor.

UNJUSTIFIED CRITICISM OF B.R.S., SAYS CHAIRMAN

h/TUCH of the criticism levelled at IVJ British Road Services was unjustified, but this could not be said of all of it, and in most of the cases where B.R.S. was at fault, there had been a failure of the human element.

Maj.-Gen. G. N. Russell, chairman of the Road Haulage Executive, makes this observation in a message to the staff in the December issue of" British Road Services Magazine."

"However much credit may be due to each one of us for 'what we have helped to build up in the past 4f years --and we may all be justly proud of what has been achieved—the fact remains that one little piece of inefficiency on the part of one person tends to be given greater publicity in the Press and elsewhere than the results of years of hard work by thousands," he says.
