This journal fosters, represents, and chronicles commercial motoring in all its branches ; it has the largest and best circulation throughout the United Kingdom, the Colonies, India, and foreign countries generally. No part of our exclusive and valuable circulation is due to the forcing of sales in useless quarters.

Mr. Shrapnel] Smith lectures at Aberdeen, to-morrow (Friday), at 3.30 p.m., to the members of the Aberdeen Chamber of Commerce. His subject is " Commercial Motor Vehicles."

It is intended that there shall be two parades of lorries and tractors next year, in connection with "TnE. COMMERCIAL MOTOR prize scheme for good driving, one each at Manchester and London.

Mr. E. A. Rosenheim, B.Sc., B.Eng., A.I. E. E., M. I.A. E., has been elected to the Council of the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders in succession to Mr. j. S. Napier, as a representative of the New Arrol-Johnston Car Company, Limited.

The Secretary of the S.M.N1.T. notifies us that Mr. Claude Johnson's name was erroneously circulated as a member of the committee to deal with the March Show (see page 331 ante), and that the name of Mr. Raymond Dennis should have been included.

Miscellaneous and other advertisement copy for next week's issue must, in view of the special publishing arrangements which are necessitated by the Christmas holidays, reach the offices of this journal by first post tomorrow (Friday), C.M.U.A. Cc mmittee.

We hope the Executive Committee of the Commercial Motor Users' Association will invite provincial members who can attend the monthly meetings with fair regularity to allow themselves to be nominated for election in March next. We should like to see a larger number of country representatives upon this committee, and we are sure the Secretary will be most happy to have the names of any likely volunteers for office, Next year's programme, in view of impending fresh legislation, should be of great importance and interest to all owners of vans, lorries, and tractors, and the next Committee should be in touch with all districts.

There was a large attendance at the last meeting of the Executive Committee of this association, when the final arrangements for the management of the parade of the 14th instant, in connection with `` Tit is COMMERCIAL MOTOR " prize scheme, were settled. Other business included : progress reported in regard to the association's programme for lectures before Chambers of Commerce; a grant of five guineas made to the Roads Improvement Association; resolved that the association's cup for cleanliness in respect of oil droppings, which was awarded to De Dion Bouton (1907), Limited, should be exhibited until March next, and then presented to the winning company before the Olympia Show; a large addition to the membership reported.

It has been -decided to close the subscription list for the Renard (India) Transport Corporation, Limited, to-day (Thursday), this date having been fixed with regard to applications from India.

We are pleased to have good reports, from steam-lorry makers, of orders for the colonies and abroad. Sidney Straker and Squire, Ltd., of Nelson Square, S.E., is doing a large share of this business, for which its " Colonial " type is so well suited.

An order for the compulsory winding up of the Mail Motor Company Limited, of Grimsby, was made, at drimsby, County Court, on the 12th instant, on the application of the Anglo-American Oil Company, Limited.

Messrs. R. J. Mecredy and J. C. Percy will give a smoking concert at the Greshatn Hotel, Sackville Street, Dublin, on the 8th proximo, in connection with the opening of the forthcoming Dublin Motor Show.

Mr. A. Griffith-Boscawen has been elected president of the National Traction Engine Owners' and Users' Association, in succession to Mr. George Arnold. Messrs. D. Bennett, Percy Simmons, and E. B. Chittenden have been elected vice-chairmen.

De Dion Dividends.

Dividend warrants for the interim dividend were despatched to shareholders of De Dion Bouton (19o7), Limited, on the loth instant. The ordinary shareholders received a division -of profits at the rate of 8 per tent, per annum, and deferred shareholders at the rate of 23.8 per cent. per annum.

A War Office Order.

We are interested to hear that, in addition to the recent award of a diploma given by the Army Council to the Maudslay Motor Company (1907), Limited, for the performance of its 3-ton lorry in the recent trials, this company has received an order from the War Office for a duplicate of that vehicle.

A Provincial Cab Company.

The Birmingham Motor Cab Company, Limited, has recently been registered, with a capital of -r2,000 in Zr shares, to carry on the business of motorcab, carriage and vehicle proprietors, and carriers of passengers and goods. The registered office is at Premier Motor Works, Aston Road, Birmingham.

L.C.C. Fire Brigade Motors.

The Fire Brigade Committee of the L.C.C. issued a report, on Monday, with regard to wheels for motor fire appliances. In May and July last tenders were accepted from Merryweather and Sons, Ltd., for two motor tenders with one spare set of wheels, and one motor escape van. The specifications provided that the hind wheels of the appliances should be fitted with twin tires, hut the Committee was now advised that it would be better to have single tires fitted with De Fornier non-skids, Merryweather and Sons, Ltd., is willing to supply single tires instead of twin tires, and to reduce the contract prices ;or the appliances in question by a total sum of ,4;40 in respect thereof. The cost of the non-skids, however, is -L;74 55. The Committee has sanctioned the additional expenditure of :C.34 5s.
