Bedford Haulier Organizing Another Joint Tender, this time for 34-vehicle Unit

ENCOURAGED by the success of a joint tender he organized earlier this year (The Commercial Motor, May 6), Mr. C. Robinson, chairman of Bedford sub-area of the Road Haulage Ass6ciation, is planning a similar scheme for Tiptree unit 6620, which is offered for sale in list R.6.

It is not yet known who the joint tenderers will he, hut it is intended again to submit the tender a few minutes before 10 a.m. on the last day (November 30). •

The Tiptree unit comprises premises, 34 operative vehicles (91 tons) and three spares, of which 19 arc articulated outfits, four are tippers and one a van. Apart from a Dodge lorry, all the licensed vehicles are Bedfords.

Mr. Robinson is a director and secretary of Kilby and Davison, Ltd., Bedford, whose share of the earlier purchase was three lorries with special A licences and one` additional.

NORTHERN AREA Direct purchases have &en made by Mr. R. Cawthorn. 4 Croft Terrace, Hexham (a lorry-5 tons 9 cwt.); Comberhill Motors, Ltd., Olympia Garage, Jogs Road. Another repeat purchase involving four vehicles is that of SiveWright Transport and Storage, Ltd.. Ship Canal House; King Street, Manchester. They have a total unladen weight of 111 tons. Mr. A. Mealor, 94 Chester Road. Whitby, Ellesinere Port, has taken over another vehicle (21 tons) in a direct 'put'chase from. B.R.S.. and Mr. J. Mellor, 4 Wistaston Road. Crewe, one (21 tons). Two trailers assigned to Mr. K. Miller. 5 Oaktnere Avenue, Withnell, near Chorley. by Cleave Transport (Audlern), Ltd., Audlem, have been divided between J. Bradley (Accrington), Ltd., Park Garage. Argyle Street, Accrington (2( tons), and Road SCrvices (Caledonian). Ltd., Leafield 'Road. Dumfries (21 tons). That acquired by Road Services (Caledonian) is based in Preston.

Mr. Miller has also assigned a lorry (3 tons) to Messrs. Dutton Transport, Nook Garage. Dutton. near Longridge, Preston. It was originally held by Messrs. Athersmith Bros„ Abbey Road, Barrow-in-Furness.
