T"need to ensure that specifications of vehicle weight were kept up to date was stressed by Mr. W, F. Quin, Scottish Licensing Authority, at Glasgow last week.

He was continuing the hearing of an application by Messrs. Scott's Road Transport, Glasgow, for an A licence for a 31-ton vehicle currently under special-A licence. The operators wished to carry furniture and household goods, and perform removals in central and north-east Scotland.

The vehicle had been acquired at 2 tons 18 cwt. 1 qr., but appeared on the records at 3 tons 7 cwt. 42 lb. It was explained that the applicants had noticed the discrepancy and had taken it up with the Authority.

They had removed an extension from the vehicle, put on by the previous owners, to bring it back to the weight originally stated. Mr. Quin observed that the changed weight was not officially stamped on the registration book, and ruled that the case be deferred for a properly authenticated weight check.

Other new depots at Newcastle upon Tyne and Coventry, arid the building of a three-storey storage block at the London base were planned for the near future.

ANATIONAL competition in which teams of C-licence drivers would compete in their knowledge of the Highway Code and the Handbook of the Traders' Road Transport Association was proposed by Ald. I. Lacey, chairman of Portsmouth Accident Prevention Council, when he presented prizes to the winners of the T.R.T.A. 'drivers' quiz," at Portsmouth last week.

Col. E. G. Outfield, chairman of the Portsmouth Area of the T.R.T.A., promptly issued a challenge to the Southampton Area on these terms.
