Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

at Manchester on Monday, to oppose a B-licence application by A. Foster Transport Co., Ltd., Ancoats, for 20 vehicles totalling 160 tons unladen weight, the applicants did not appear in court.

Mr. A. C. G. Rothera. for 38 objectors from the East Midland Traffic Area, told Mr. F. Williamson, the North Western Licensing Authority, that in the course of preparing the objections it was discovered that there was no registered company in existence bearing the name of the applicants.

If this were so, he said, a false statement had been made and they would ask the Licensing Authority to bear this in mind if there should be a further application. There had been tremendous cost and inconvenience to the objectors and it seemed, in any case, that the proper place for the application was the East Midlands.

Refusing the application, Mr. Williamson commented that the same company had been granted an unopposed B-licence application for six vehicles for work on the Warrington By-pass in December, 1959. The grant had not been taken up.

Licence applications of this sort, drawing large numbers of objectors, should not be submitted lightly and inquiries would be made into the whole matter.
