A.R.O. DEFENDS ITS WAGES CONFERENCE POLICY.

Although there was obviously a tremendous current of interest in the projected amalgamation schemes which are so much to the fore at the moment, one only of the speakers at the annual dinner of the West Midland Area of A.R.O., which was held last week, made direct reference to the subject.

Colonel A. S. Redman said that he had that day read the current issue of The Commercial Malor, dealing with the subject, and that, in his opinion, an article in that issue brought the matter of amalgamation within the industry right up to date. He advised those who had not read the article to do so.

Major Crawfurd said that the A.R.O. was formed to defend, advise and help its members. In referring to the threatened strike of road-transport employees, he said that the Association had been accused of going back on its promises. That was not so. The Conciliation Board machinery, he said, was not effective and its representations could not be carried out. New machinery was wanted and would, he expected, arise out of action taken on the Baillie Report.

The Chief Constable of Wolverhampton, Mr. E. Tilley, stated that he was in favour of a court of experts to deal with motoring offences of all kinds.
