Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

A RUBBER-SPRUNG bogie for driven tandems has been developed by Rydewell Suspensions Ltd of Brighouse, West Yorkshire, as a conversion all ready to bolt to a chassis.

Prefabricated duplex crossmembering braces the chassis above the bogie. The flanged top-hat section cross-members embody the bonded-rubber mountings of the A-frames which are linked to the tops of the driving axles, locating them laterally as well as absorbing torque reaction.

The axles are rubber-jointed to an articulating steel beam on each side—each beam carried at its section on a pair of transversely arranged bondedrubber sandwich springs.

Rydewell claims that these transverse rubber springs provide extra resistance to roll yet allow the beams to rock. About 254mm (10in) articulation is afforded between the axles.
