• The Department of Transport has bowed to pressure from operators who have bought 16.5m articulated units, by issuing special dispensations to allow them to use their vehicles before the 16.5m legislation is passed. This covers all operators who bought before 1 January.
Operators should contact Tom Turner on 01-276 6438. ▪ The Freight Transport Association has called for the turning circle requirements in the regulations governing 16.5m artics to be dropped until British trucks conform to European weight limits. "Achieving the turning circle with a 3+2 combination is wellnigh impossible," and deters operators from acquiring threeaxle tractors.
