Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

QI have been told that have to change the type of fire extinguisher in my minibus. It was registered on 12 June 1988. The one I have at the moment is Halon.

DR, Swindon AIf the extinguisher complies with Regulation 42 and Part 1 of Schedule 7 of the Road Vehicles (Construction & Use) Regulations 1986, as amended, then you do not need to change it. The confusion is caused by the Statutory Instrument 1989 No 2360 which amends the above act by simplifying the requirements.

It states Regulation 42 (i) No person shall use, or cause or permit to be used, on a road a minibus first used on or after 1 April 1988 unless it carries suitable and efficient apparatus for extinguising fire which is of a type specified in Part 1 of Schedule 7, which says (amended by SI 1989 No 2360): A fire extinguisher which complies in all respects with the specification for portable fire extinguishers issued by the British Standards Institute Numbered BS5423 1977 or BS5423 1980 or BS5423 1981 and which (a) Has a minimum test fire rating of 8A or 21B and (b) Contains water or foam or contains, and is marked to indicate that it contains, halon 1211 or halon 1301.
